Our latest Youth Camp, held in December 2018 and themed 'Deeper' aimed to encourage personal encounters with God and also motivate our youths to be active in reaching out to their friends!

In this article, our Camp Commandant Ms Chong Hey Ee tells us more about her experience during the camp, and our Youth Staff Mr Jeremiah Singh shares his reflections as well.

From the Commandant...

Being the camp commandant for camp 'Deeper' allowed me to oversee the planning and running of the camp. Even though the responsibility seemed pretty big, it was made easier because the Camp Committee consisted of really great friends who were equally as excited as I was to plan for the camp!
During the actual camp itself, we were always operating 24/7 to ensure that the camp ran smoothly with minimal to no hiccups. Even though we were very tired by the end of the camp, it was worth it. We knew that we would not have been able to do it without God's strength and guidance with us.

From our Youth Staff...

Camp 'Deeper' was truly an exciting, meaningful and memorable camp! The Camp Committee did well in responding to the call to put together what was our most packed camp to date.

The youth leaders, through careful prayer and deliberation, decided on having a dual-focused camp programme - first, discipleship and second, outreach.

Our camp's keynote speaker was Mr Steve Loh, formerly from Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Singapore and currently CEO of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA). He took the youths through important lessons on identity and relationship with God, speaking a lot from experience and also showing them cool photos and videos of our cosmos!

We also had Ms Kaye Yeh of Youth Kairos speak to the youths on missions. She brought them through an adventure of the past few centuries of missions, which gave our youths further context and depth in their understanding of missions.

Of course, there were the obligatory fun and games as well! This time, a rare event - it did not rain during our outdoor games! Youths had lots of fun (and got a good tan as well!) bonding together through these activities.

The Youth Leadership Team (YLT) also organised a special activity (we traditionally have one every camp), which neither campers nor the camp committee had details of. They were split into groups and taken on an 'Amazing Cross-Cultural Experience' - an Amazing Race-styled activity which saw them go to Chinatown and Little India, and learn more about the Chinese and Indian cultures. They had to locate landmarks, find answers to trivia questions as well as interact with foreign nationals in the area. They really enjoyed this, and I heard later that it was the first time some had visited one of these areas.

Youth Camps are always special, with lots of memories and deeper friendships forged. Onward, to the next one!
